As the notorious Irish Mafioso Frank Costello mused in Martin Scorsese’s 2006 The Departed: “I don’t want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me.”
The same can be said for directors and the cinematic world they construct in their films.
Choose two films we have watched (not by the same director) and discuss the ways in which their choice and handling of subject matter, form, themes, and film references show that they are both cineastes and gangster/outlaws. Choose two scenes from each film that you think best illustrate this.
