This assignment will be a case study in the form of a research paper. The papers will be uploaded to peergrade and evaluated there by other students. The papers are worth 50 points: 40 for the paper, 10 for peer reviewing 3 papers from other groups. Please take a look at the rubric to see how the paper will be evaluated. Pick a non-communicable disease from the following chapter topics: inflammation, wound healing, neoplasia, restrictive lung diseases, and obstructive lung diseases.
Write a case study based on etiology, clinical presentation (signs and symptoms &timing), appropriate tests for patients, treatment protocols, expected prognosis, and epidemiology (incidence, prevalence, mortality). There should also be an in-depth discussion on the pathophysiology of the disease including which organs/systems are effected, microscopic & biochemical patho, and cascading effects into other organs or systems. You should list at least 4 sources which should be current (less than 5 years old). Again, please see the rubric for the information required. Pictures, video, and stories are all encouraged.
Papers don’t have a specific length requirement, but will be judged on thoroughness of the case study and attention to detail. They can also be in MS Word (APA format), powerpoint, or a short musical number – as long as the pertinent materials are covered well.
This assignment will be graded on:
How well the case study is written/presented.
Each student peer reviewing at least 3 case studies.
The final submission of your paper to peergrade must be by 11:59 pm, Tuesday, October 8th. The 3 reviews of papers written by other students must be completed by 11:59 pm, Sunday October 13th.
