For this Discussion Board, we will think about the Thomas Theorem. The Thomas Theorem states that “situations that are defined as real are real in their consequences. To give a simplified version of the Thomas Theorem and the social construction of reality: When you think about the word “Monday”, what comes to mind? Probably a “blah” feeling, it’s the end of the weekend, you might have a “case of the Monday’s”. Why can we all agree that Monday is hardly ever as good as “Friday”? We create the reality that Monday’s are negative and Friday’s are fun. We agree with those sentiments and act accordingly. It is the same idea with a wedding ring. It is just a ring but we have attached meaning to it and we agree with what that ring symbolizes. Because we have created that reality, when you see someone with a ring on the the ring finger of the left hand we know that person is married or engaged. By applying these principles to the article you are about to read you might have a better understanding how the situations described were perceived and why the subsequent actions resulted. Check out this webpage ( below this paragraph) that describes the Thomas Theorem. Read the information on the page and watch the short video. (The video on the webpage below is not working.
