Write a research proposal on any topic of your choosing. This may be related to a
current project in the Emergency Department or another topic that interests you. The
research proposal should be a minimum of two pages, single-spaced and should
contain at least 5 references. Your proposal should contain the following sections
1. Introduction: include a general description of the topic and overall importance to
the field
https://www.cdc.gov/genomics/resources/diseases/obesity/obesedit.htm
2. Background/Review of Literature: summarize what is already known on the topic
as well as similar studies and what questions are left unresolved
the papers given in 4 paragraphs. Begin with the one :”Introduction to Pediatric Obesity” and mostly on the paragraph that talks about theCommon allelic variation in genes that may affect energy balance .
Continue with what is the role of the FTO gene and what is idea behind the linkage with obesity
3.Research Question(s): should include 1-3 questions as well as your hypothesis
The question I am interested to answer is if there is an association/link between obesity and FTO gene.
4. Methods and design: : include methodology (genetic testing in both obese and lean children/ adolescent) looking for the allele A that increases the BMI according to “Association of the FTO Gene With BMI Steven C. Hunt1, Steven Stone2, Yuanpei Xin1, Christina A. Scherer3, Charles L. Magness3, Shawn P. Iadonato3, Paul N. Hopkins1 and Ted D. Adams1″ with explanation for why you are using specific methodology,
5. study population and subjects obese pediatric population in comparison to healthy individuals, inclusion criteria BMI >30 and exclusion criteria , sample size ideally >150 obese and >150 lean individuals, control groups, analytic approach
6. Since this is a clinical study that envolves patients, and more specifically children, Patient concent forms and explanation of the study will be given to both the subject and their parent. As well a debriefing after the completion of the study,
7. Significance and Conclusion: indicate how your study would contribute to the
field
In short If there is a relationship between obesity and FTO gene, knowing the genetics of children in high risk for obesity, we wil be able to change the enviromental factors that triggers it, either through diet, either through exersice and always with the appropiate consoluting. Prevention is key here
