Assessment Overview
This is the first of two assessments for this course. For this assessment you will select a listed
company from an Aotearoa New Zealand context to use as a case study to critically analyse
their financial decision making.
Conditions of Assessment
This is an individual assessment that you will complete in your learner-managed time, however,
your teacher will provide opportunities during class time for clarification, guidance, collaborative
working opportunities, and group discussion. All work must be completely your own and all
literature used must be referenced appropriately using APA 6th edition. In order to pass this
course, you must achieve a cumulative grade of at least 50%, across assessment one and two.

Instructions
To prepare for this assessment you will select a listed company1
from an Aotearoa New Zealand
context to use a case study. Your selection will need to be based on your ability to access the
appropriate publicly available financial and reporting documents to critically analyse.
Using your selected case study and referring to relevant literature to support your analyses,
prepare a report that critically analyses the financial decision making by interpreting the financial
statements of the organisation. Your report will critically evaluate data related to the profitability
of the chosen organisation, critically analysing business financial decisions, and make
corresponding recommendations for improving future profitability.
