Resistance within organizations.
COLLAPSE
A criticism of organization theory is that it is concerned more with promoting an organization’s goals than promoting the interests of individuals. Theories of motivation, group behavior, etc. are all preoccupied with making individuals serve organizations’ interests.
In reality though, individuals find ways to exercise their autonomy within organizations. This area is not studied enough by organization theorists. For example, individuals resist, subvert, or otherwise challenge the authority of bosses and organizations without completely undermining their own jobs or the interests of organizations.
Reflect on this issue of resistance within organizations. Think of examples of resistance. What do employees do to subtly, and not so subtly, resist and block bosses without going so far as to be insubordinate?
