Bargaining, at a basic level, is the communication by two parties of the terms they require to consummate a transaction and the subsequent acceptance or rejection of the terms by both.
Negotiation is the set of techniques parties use to influence the terms of the ultimate settlement.
Bargaining is required because the parties have a conflict of interest on issues that jointly affect them.
Negotiation requires the presentation of positions, their evaluation by the other party, and counterproposals.
