Democracy was imposed on Germany and Japan through regime change after the Second World War, which was a pretty successful project. The United States sought to repeat the same scenario in Afghanistan (in 2001), in Iraq (in 2003) and in a number of former Soviet republics in the 2000s. Considering that there are certain economic, cultural and educational prerequisites for a society to experience democratization, do you think that overall it is possible to ‘export’ democracy to a developing country? Were the recent regime changes in the Arab World, Ukraine, and some other countries successful in nurturing democracy and civic political culture in those countries?
